Let’s talk lingerie and the different types of lingerie looks to style your boudoir session with. When preparing your wardrobe for boudoir you want to take care to ensure that you are choosing pieces that; compliment and flatter your figure, fit just right and are not too tight or too loose, you feel absolutely confident and sexy wearing, and you want to bring different styles so you have plenty of options to choose from on the day of your session as a lot of clients will make last minute wardrobe changes moments before their session. Here’s a rule for wardrobe to always follow; if you are not sure, if you’re feeling is meh…leave it at home.
Don’t overthink your wardrobe for your boudoir session. Select a few pieces you feel are timeless and represent you and your style well. Examples of a mix of pieces to bring are: a bra and panty set, a teddy, and a chemise or a pair of Calvin Klien’s, a white button down sleep shirt, and a bra and panty set with an open cardigan or sweater.
Lingerie Do’s
- Do wear solid colors
- Do try on pieces to ensure they fit weeks before your session
- Do make sure thigh highs are a size or two bigger than what you are as they can fit extremely snug and cause skin to muffin top over.
- Do bend and move in the mirror to ensure as you move the lingerie still is flattering with your shape.
- Do mix and match
- Get a proper bra fitting
Lingerie Don’ts
- Don’t bring hot colors or neons such as hot pink, neon green, neon yellow, as they cause what is called color cast in your skin that cannot be fixed in photoshop.
- Don’t choose styles that do not fit. Your skin should not be puffing out around straps and cups.
- Don’t get your lingerie at adult novelty stores. They just don’t photograph well with our photographic style.
The Teddy
The teddy is a popular lingerie piece that clients often love to rock for their session. The teddy is perfect for every body type and conceals the tummy for those who are bit insecure flaunting their tummy in boudoir.
The Body Suit
Like the teddy, the bodysuit is another lingerie piece you can use that is flattering for all body types. The difference, the bodysuit has sleves instead of thin straps like the teddy. Bodysuits come in a variety from one smooth fabric piece to lacy pieces.
Shape Wear
Shape Wear is another piece like bodysuits and teddy’s that are flattering on all figures PLUS it gives you the bonus of lifting and tucking your form. Places you can get amazing shape wear perfect for boudoir are Pinsy Shapewear, Popilush, Maidenform.
Swim Wear
Swim wear can add a touch of elegance to your boudoir session and is perfect for styling your wardrobe. Stick with solid colors that are minimalistic and say away from busy patterns. Places we love for swimwear pieces Amazon, Torrid, and Forever 21.
Bustiers
Bustiers are lingerie tops usually pairs with a panty piece. You can jazz them up with thigh highs and stilettos or just wear them on their own without the leg wear.
Coresets
Corsets are popular for boudoir however they can be a pain in the butt to get on. Don’t worry, we will assist you with getting into and securing your corset. Corsets can pull you in and give you a hour glass figure, they can give you a lift with the breasts, and they can slim you down. They can also be very difficult to bend and move around in especially in boudoir where we are hyper arching and hyper flexing. Adore Me has a great selection of corsets especially for curvier clients.
Chemises
A chemise is a like a lingerie dress, it’s often short and lacy. It’s form fitting and hugs your curves.
Bra and Panty Sets
Bra and panty sets are very common items you probably have already in your wardrobe. They photograph beautifully and can be solid or lacy.
Calvin Kliens
Possibly one of my favorite pieces for boudoir. You simply cannot go wrong with a Calvin Klien bra and panty set. You can style them with our white shirt and it just looks damn sexy! You can get your Calvins on Amazon, Macy’s, Dillards, etc…
ACCESSORIZING
Now let’s talk about accessorizing your lingerie for your boudoir session…the Portrait by Chrissy Boudoir way…
Jackets
Jackets can give your boudoir images a little pizzaz! If you want a cool girl or hip chic style of boudoir bring a crop leather jacket, a denim jacket, or even a tailored blazer you’d wear to work. Pair it with a bra and panty and you’re set!!
Sweaters
For a comfy cozy or girl next door look for boudoir, bring a cardigan or an oversized open sweater to wear over your lingerie selections.
Robes
I love, love, love, robes in boudoir. We stock the studio with a beautiful selection of robes you can choose from to wear with your lingerie or on their own for your session….or you can bring your own but we really do recommend ours as shown below.
The White Shirt
One of the top requested pieces in our client wardrobe closet is the white shirt. You can wear it over your lingerie, bra and panty set, or by itself in black or in white.
Shoes
Shoes are not a priority for our studio BUT if you do choose to rock them we recommend a stiletto in black or nude, or a strappy black stiletto. Avoid shoes that are worn down, dirty, scuffed, and you want that heel high.
You can always just go nude….in fact, plenty of clients choose not to bother with the hassle of wardrobe and go in their birthday suit.
