Hi my name is Chrissy and I am a boudoir photographer in Houston, TX and I want to share with why and how I became a boudoir photographer. This is the story of my evolution and my why…
It all started with a Cricut machine and an Etsy shop. That’s right, my journey here started with a craft shop on Etsy. I used to make wood products, t-shirts, cups, and more on Etsy, then I realized after seeing a horrible resolution of a photo I had uploaded to my Etsy shop, I needed a better camera than just my iPhone to take pictures with so I purchased a used D3100 off eBay.
When my camera came in, I quickly found out that you don’t just take a DSLR camera out of the box and go straight into taking pictures. You had to learn how to expose, light, and compose your portraits. Learning my camera because a new difficult but thrilling hobby for me. Every single day I was photographing something. I became obsessed with hearing the shutter of the camera click and to this day, I am still obsessed with hearing the sound of a camera shutter, it’s like a drug to me.
I began photographing my children, my husband, my friends children and people just started asking me to take pictures of their children and families. That’s right, I started out as a children and family photographer until I met my first mentor and muse, photographer Sue Bryce who is now a business and self development coach.
I learned everything I know about photographing people from Sue Bryce and moved from photographing children to taking breathtaking photographs of women Vanity Fair style…
Through Sue, I would be introduced to Portrait Masters and it was at a Portrait Master’s conference I would learn about the beauty and wonder of boudoir. I eagerly began to photograph women in this new found genre of photography which lead me to my why…
Why I stayed in boudoir and have been a boudoir photographer for the last six years of my ten years photographing people. I love connecting with women. I am through and true and girls girl. The bonds I create with the women I photograph fills my cup and watching women transform and learn to fall in love themselves is also a big ego rush knowing you helped empower and woman on her journey of self love, self acceptance, and self discovery.
Being boudoir photographer is a hard but rewarding job and I wouldn’t change it for anything because through this job I have met so may women who have inspired me, lifted me up, and changed me. That’s right…I don’t just change women, they also breathe life and change in me. Every woman is on her own path and her own journey in life and for a few hours a day, I get to be a big and important part of that…
